Malawi, Africa’s smallest coffee-producing nation, offers a unique coffee in flavor and style.

Located throughout northern Malawi and Established in 2007, Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union is made up of six primary cooperatives: Misuku, Phoka and Viphya North, Nkhata Bay Highlands, South East Mzimba, and Ntchisi. With 2,469 members, Mzuzu acts as an umbrella organization in charge of sorting, processing, and marketing the green coffee on behalf of its member producers. Mzuzu concentrates its efforts on coffee production and expansion, quality improvement, promotion of domestic coffee consumption, and community development projects. Through the formation of the Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union, thousands of members have been able to organize and achieve a higher price for their specialty coffee, as well as work together to strengthen their coffee communities.

Coffee producers have been farming in Malawi since the 1930s. The good quality of the soil, along with high levels of rain and mild climate, have helped foster the growth of the country’s best coffee. Mzuzu Union farmers begin harvesting the cherry as early as 6 a.m., hand-picking the ripest cherries and transporting them by basket to the nearest washing station. Mzuzu’s washing stations are centrally located, usually no more than 5 kilometers from the farthest farms. Farmers depulp their cherries with technical assistance from Mzuzu Union trainers and staff. The coffee is then sun dried before being transported to the central dry-milling plant in Mzuzu. Mzuzu also possesses two on-site roasters for local coffee consumption.

**Don't Forget! These beans are green right now! We need you to place your order, so we can roast it especially for you and ship FRESH on Tuesday . Wait, tell me more…

At Treeline we like to keep it fresh. All coffees ordered are roasted, packaged and shipped on demand each week on Tuesdays. Orders must be placed before 5 a.m. PST in order to have your coffee shipped that week, because as much as we like to think we are awesome - we are not awesome enough to predict what you might be ordering.

All orders after this time will ship the following week. If this seems like a SUPER long time to wait for caffeine (don't worry, we get it) please leave us a note and we will do everything in our caffeinated power to sort you out.

Due to our cafes being extra needy, we roast some coffee other times in the week as well - if your coffee happens to be the same coffee that they are getting, consider yourself a winner-winner-chicken-dinner because we will probably ship earlier then we just told you we would.
